On the way for the Karaoke place, close to Ueno Station. The chop sticks were moving up and down.

By the way, do you know what "Karaoke" means ? It literally means "empty (kara) orchestra". And yet in Japan, Karaoke is more private, we rent a room and sing songs just for ourselves.

Halloween @ Tokyo Disney Land

Here in Japan, " Halloween " is not as familiar as " Christmas " It's getting known but it's still new event for us. On Halloween night, children in costumes visit neighbors to ask for candy, saying "Trick orTreat!" This is what I've seen only on the oversea TV show or so.
However, Tokyo Disney Land is focus on the halloween party every year and they put amazing decoration everywhere in the park!! Apparently, the helloween party is one of the most popular event in Tokyo Disney Land!! Also, it's the 25th Aniversary this year, so they've got a special event in the evening.

If you are interested, don't miss it ! the Halloween party is taking place until the 31st October.

The Turner Prize Exhibion @ Roppongi Hills

untitled.jpg
I went to Mori Art museum at Roppongi Hills on my day off. It was because there was a photo exhibition took place and also I wanted to see an exhibion of The Turner Prize. To be honest that I know nothing about art, but the exhibition was totally hit me. it was incredible.
“The Turner Prize” is one of the most significant awards in the world of contemporary art,
The most impressive work, as far as I'm concerned, was the object which contains of a mother cow and a calf with formalin preservaion separately, but their bodies were split in half!!! also, you can actually go though between one part of mother's body and the other's and see how their body were consisted.
Most of the works were affected by the social problems around that time.
Strongly recommended!

Also, there is an observation deck on the 52th floor and you can see the wonderful view around Tokyo from 250m above sea level.

Admission fee is included art museum + observation deck+ sky deck. 1500yen for adult.

From The Oak Hotel

Metro Ueno Station ( 10mins walk from the hotel )

The doll's festival

雛.jpg
kitty hina2.jpg
March 3rd is celebrated as the Girl's Day, or the Festival of Dolls. People display graceful dolls in ancient court costumes on a tier of 5 or 7 shelves covered with scarlet cloth. These dolls represent the Emperor and Empress, the court ladies, the ministers and the court musicians. The girls are expected to be as elegant as these courtly ladies.
Young girls wear their beautiful Kimono and get together before the display and have a good time, eating sweet rice crackers (Hina arare) and drinking white sake (Shirozake). It isalso known as the Peach Festival.

Coming of age day

seijinshiki.jpg
The second Monday of January is "Seijin no hi" (Coming-of-age Day) in Japan. ( it's on the 14th this year ) People celebrate this day to welcome the young men and women, who have turned or will turn the age of 20 during the current year, as new members of society!! Ceremonies are held in every city, town and village. The people who have reached the age of twenty get the right to vote and also allowed to smoke and drink.

When my coming of age ceremony was.... don't remember.... :p Anyway, I think it's a kind of special day for us, We feel that we become adults and realise that we will have to assume all responsibility whatever we've done. Also, we get dressed, wear kimono ( we wear it only special occasions ....) , have our hair done, put on make up, reunion with old friends and have some drinks. It's funny to meet them again after a long time, how much they have changed!!!
